Steven Weissman Bio
Steven Weissman is a Lecturer in Residence at U.C. Berkeley School of Law and Director of the Energy Program in the Center for Law, Energy & the Environment. He came to this position in 2008 after serving as an administrative law judge, attorney and policy advisor at the California Public Utilities Commission. In that capacity, he provided leadership on some of the agency’s energy efficiency, renewable energy and resource-related rulemaking proceedings, and presided over several controversial environmental disputes. He is an environmental mediator and a former Principal Consultant to the California State Assembly’s Committee on Natural Resources. In addition, he served as Legal Director for the Local Government Commission, an environmental and social policy think tank, providing assistance to local governments. He also teaches Energy Law at Vermont Law School. In the Fall of 2013, he was a Fulbright scholar, teaching Energy Law in Tarragona, Spain. He received a B.A. from the University of Michigan, a J.D. from the University of California, at Davis, and an M.P.A. from Harvard University.
